clean shave, clean conscience
This blog post includes a gifted product - a safety razor from Bambaw.

"Plastic razors are the new plastic straws", with their highly difficult-to-recycle nature and lack of great function compared to their reusable counterparts. The lifecycle of a disposable razor is inherently wasteful, requiring significant energy and resources to create and being hard to recycle efficiently due to the mixture of materials they are made from. On average, a disposable razor can only be used 3-10 times before becoming clogged and blunt (and completely inefficient for use!), meaning that the average person using them will get through about 40-50 razors annually, generating 1.1kg of CO2 to their footprint.

Zero waste options like safety razors offer a solution to target the issue at the root cause and save money along the way! Bambaw safety razors are stainless steel, which can be recycled without any loss in quality and they work in close collaboration with partners to ensure that environmental and ethical standards are maintained. Safety razors can be better for those with sensitive skin as having more blades crossing the skin can lead to irritation, plus many disposable razors have a 'moisture strip' which contains butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) which is a lab-produced chemical and some can contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals which are in direct contact with the skin. Simply having one blade can reduce irritation, can be healthier due to having no added chemicals, is better for the planet, and can be better for your wallet. Whilst a safety razor may be a bigger initial investment, razor replacements are a minimal cost compared to the ongoing expenses of disposable razors.

Using a safety razor has been game-changing in terms of the smoothness of the shave and it feels good to not be impacting the environment with my daily rituals.
